IRCTC to offer train travel insurance at just one paisa starting today

In a “Diwali bonanza” ahead of the festival, rail passengers can now avail travel insurance scheme at just one paisa from Friday. 07.10.2016

The optional travel insurance scheme for train passengers will be available at a token price of just one paisa instead of 92 paisa from October 7.

Enthused by the burgeoning number of rail travelers opting for the scheme since its launch on September 1, IRCTC said today that it has reduced the premium amount to one paisa from the 92 paise, albeit for a temporary period.

The reduced premium cost will be valid for all tickets booked up till October 31, 2016 under the scheme offered by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

“We have decided to implement the reduced price for the optional travel insurance scheme with immediate effect. It is a special promotional measure and the idea is to facilitate more and more rail travellers avail this scheme,” IRCTC Chairman and Managing Director A K Manocha said, adding “It is a Diwali bonanza for our patrons.”

Manocha informed that 1,20,87,625 train passengers had opted for the scheme till 8 AM today. The scheme which was introduced on September 1 this year had found acceptance with one crore passengers till September 29.

“The optional insurance scheme is a passenger-friendly measure, and the way it is being opted for by rail travelers is a proof of its growing popularity,” Manocha pointed out.

The facility, which was announced in the Railway Budget 2016-17, allows a travelling passenger to get an insurance cover of up to Rs 10 lakh on booking a train ticket on the IRCTC’s portal.

It offers travellers or their families compensation of up to Rs 10 lakh in the event of death or permanent total disability, Rs 7.5 lakh for permanent partial disability, up to Rs 2 lakh for hospitalisation expenses and Rs 10,000 for transportation of mortal remains in the event of death or injury from a train accident or other untoward incident, including terrorist attacks, dacoity, rioting, shoot-out or arson, as well as for short termination, diverted route and Vikalp trains.

The facility is available for all rail passengers who book the e-ticket, excluding sub-urban trains, irrespective of the class of the ticket. The insurance cover is uniform for all classes and the option available through a checkbox at the time of e-ticket booking. The premium amount is automatically added to the ticket fare if the passenger opts for insurance.

After the ticket booking and payment of premium, a message is displayed to complete the nomination details.

The scheme is being implemented by IRCTC in partnership with ICICI Lombard, Royal Sundaram and Shriram General.

In case of passenger opting for insurance, the claim and liability is between passenger and the insurance company. In the event of a death due to accident, 100 per cent of the sum insured will be paid by the company.

एनम ने अपने भाषण में कहा कि आतंकवाद को बढ़ावा देना पाकिस्तान की पुरानी नीति रही है, जिसका परिणाम पाकिस्तान के आस-पास के इलाकों में देखने को मिल रहा है. ये कितनी अजीब बात है कि जो देश खुद आतंकवाद को बढ़ावा दे रहा है वो मानवाधिकारों की बात करता है.

एनम ने 11 सितंबर को हुए अमेरिकी हमले का भी जिक्र किया और पाकिस्तान को पाखंडी बताया.

Once upon a time, there was a flock of doves that flew in search of food led by their king. One day, they had flown a long distance and were very tired. The dove king encouraged them to fly a little further. The smallest dove picked up speed and found some rice scattered beneath a banyan tree. So all the doves landed and began to eat.

Suddenly a net fell over them and they were all trapped. They saw a hunter approaching carrying a huge club. The doves desperately fluttered their wings trying to get out, but to no avail. The king had an idea. He advised all the doves to fly up together carrying the net with them. He said that there was strength in unity.

Each dove picked up a portion of the net and together they flew off carrying the net with them. The hunter looked up in astonishment. He tried to follow them, but they were flying high over hills and valleys. They flew to a hill near a city of temples where there lived a mouse who could help them. He was a faithful friend of the dove king.

When the mouse heard the loud noise of their approach, he went into hiding. The dove king gently called out to him and then the mouse was happy to see him. The dove king explained that they had been caught in a trap and needed the mouse’s help to gnaw at the net with his teeth and set them free.

The mouse agreed saying that he would set the king free first. The king insisted that he first free his subjects and the king last. The mouse understood the king’s feelings and complied with his wishes. He began to cut the net and one by one all the doves were freed including the dove king.

They all thanked the mouse and flew away together, united in their strength.

Railway's flexi fare system from today

Train tickets to be costlier by up to 50%, Indian Railways to introduce flexi fare system from today.

You will have to pay more for rail tickets as Indian Railways is all set to introduce flexi fare system for Rajdhani, Duranto and Shatabdi trains from Friday (Sept 9).

The Indian Railways has decided to introduce the flexi fare system for Rajdhani/Duronto and Shatabdi trains as per details given below:-

1.  The base fare for Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi class of trains will be on flexi fare system.

2(a) The base fares will increase by 10% with every 10% of berths sold subject to a prescribed ceiling limit as indicated in the table below. There will be no change in the existing fare for 1AC and EC class of travel. In the tables given below ‘X’ stands for the present base fares.

Other supplementary charges like reservation charges, superfast charge, catering charges, service tax etc., as applicable shall be levied separately.

(b) Vacant berths left at the time of charting would be offered for current booking. Tickets under current booking shall be sold at the last price sold for that class and other supplementary charges like reservation fee, superfast charges, catering charges, service tax etc., as applicable shall be levied in full.

(c) The information should also be displayed to the passenger during the booking in case the fare of lower class becomes higher than the higher class to exercise option to travel by the higher class.

(d) The last price for every class of tickets for the particular train should be printed in the reservation chart for the purpose of charging of difference of fare in the train or charging the passengers of the train without ticket etc.,

3 The operation of various quotas available in these category of Trains shall be as under:

(a) Tatkal Quota: The present limit of berths set aside for Tatkal quota in these trains shall be operated as per the existing guidelines.  However, no additional charges as “Tatkal charges” will be levied.  The berths assigned under the Tatkal quota shall be booked at the rate of 1.5 times of the base fare for all classes (2S, SL, 2A, 3A and CC) except 1AC and EC. Other supplementary charges like reservation fee, superfast charges, catering charges, service tax etc., as applicable shall be levied in full.

(b) There shall be no Premium Tatkal Quota in these train services.

 4. Concession: Normal concession as applicable for respective concessional ticket will be admissible on the base fare of the ticket at each stage as per the table above.

5. Refund Rules:  There will be no change in the existing refund rules.

6. Other Charges: There shall be no change in charges for reservation fee, superfast surcharge etc. Such charges, wherever applicable, shall continue to be levied additionally as per existing instructions.

7. Service tax will continue to be levied as applicable as per instructions issued in this regard.

 8. All other rules and conditions pertaining to the above category of trains shall be continued without any change.

 9.  The changes in fares as above shall come into force w.e.f  09.09.2016.

10. The revised fares will not apply to tickets already issued in advance for journeys to commence on or after 09.09.2016.

11.  In the case of tickets already issued at pre-revised rates, the difference of fare shall not be collected from the passengers.

12. These changes should be carried out in manual ticketing system and in PRS, UTS  etc.,

Petrol and diesel prices saw a hike of Rs 3.38 and Rs 2.67 per litre respectively

After reducing fuel prices on four occasions in the last two months, petrol and diesel prices saw a hike of Rs 3.38 and Rs 2.67 per litre respectively on Wednesday.

Four consecutive decreases in fuel prices in last two months saw a reduction in petrol and diesel prices in Delhi by Rs. 5.56 per litre litre for petrol and Rs 4.92 per litre for diesel.

Today’s hike in price rise has been attributed to the steep rise in crude oil prices in the international market.

“During the current fortnight, crude oil prices in the international market have witnessed a steep increase by 13% (over $ 5/bbl) compared to previous fortnight, with a corresponding increase in the international prices of petroleum products,” a press release by Indian Oil Corporation said.

Unified Payments Interface set to go live for customers with 21 banks: NPCI

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the umbrella organisation for all retail payments system in India, on Thursday announced that Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is set to go live for customers with 21 banks (19 banks and two issuers).

The 19 banks are: Andhra Bank, Axis Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Bhartiya Mahila Bank, Canara Bank, Catholic Syrian Bank, DCB Bank, Federal Bank, ICICI Bank, TJSB Sahakari Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Karnataka Bank, UCO Bank, Union Bank of India, United Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, South Indian Bank, Vijaya Bank, and YES Bank.

IDBI Bank and RBL Bank are the issuers which will enable their customers to download any UPI-enabled Apps and link their account.   

On April 11 this year, Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan announced the soft launch of UPI. Since then, it was undergoing a 'pilot run' with employee-customers to fix tecnical glitches and ensure the product gives a smooth experience for immediate ‘Pay’ and ‘Collect’ with Virtual Payment Address (VPA), NPCI said in a press release. 

After assessing the 'pilot run', RBI gave its final nod for public launch of the product.

Commenting on the launch AP Hota, MD & CEO of NPCI said, "This is a success of enormous significance. Real-time sending and receiving money through a mobile application at such a scale on interoperable basis had not been attempted anywhere else in the world. Now the UPI App will be made available on Google Play Store by banks".

As per the release, the banks with 1,000 pilot customers, 5,000 transactions and a success rate of around 80% will be permitted to go live. The decision was taken by NPCI. 

The customers can download the UPI mobile application of 19 banks from the Google Play Store in the next two-three working days. The customers can get other details of the services on the official website of these 21 banks.

RIO DE JANEIRO: It was just the perfect day for India at the Games here on Thursday. The hangover of Sakshi Malik's bronze was still there when PV Sidhu smashed her way into the women's badminton final in the morning.

It couldn't get better. Around midnight India time, news came in that the ad hoc division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) had appreciated India's presentation of wrestler Narsingh Yadav's case and that he would get to play on Friday morning.

Late in the evening, around 8.30pm here, a call changed all that. The CAS body had set aside the decision of the Indian anti-doping body, NADA, and slapped a four-year ban on Yadav. Yadav was to compete on Friday morning in the 74kg category ere and his name even figured in the draw after he cleared his medical and weigh-in on Thursday.

After this ban now, Yadav will be forced to vacate his room on the Games Village on Friday morning. The Indian delegation will try to put him up in a safe place, away from the prying eyes of the Indian media.

"The CAS panel did not accept the argument of the athlete that he was victim of sabotage and noted that there was no evidence that he bore no fault, nor that the anti-doping rule violation was not intentional. Therefore, the standard four-year period of ineligibility was imposed on the by the panel," an official release of CAS said.

The Goods and Services Tax (GST), the biggest reform in India’s indirect tax structure since the economy began to be opened up 25 years ago, at last looks set to become reality. The Constitution (122nd) Amendment Bill comes up in Rajya Sabha today, on the back of a broad political consensus and boosted by the ‘good wishes’ of the Congress, which holds the crucial cards on its passage. Here’s how GST differs from the current regimes, how it will work, and what will happen if Parliament clears the Bill. 

Stage 1

Imagine a manufacturer of, say, shirts. He buys raw material or inputs — cloth, thread, buttons, tailoring equipment — worth Rs 100, a sum that includes a tax of Rs 10. With these raw materials, he manufactures a shirt.
In the process of creating the shirt, the manufacturer adds value to the materials he started out with. Let us take this value added by him to be Rs 30. The gross value of his good would, then, be Rs 100 + 30, or Rs 130.
At a tax rate of 10%, the tax on output (this shirt) will then be Rs 13. But under GST, he can set off this tax (Rs 13) against the tax he has already paid on raw material/inputs (Rs 10). Therefore, the effective GST incidence on the manufacturer is only Rs 3 (13 – 10).

Stage 2

The next stage is that of the good passing from the manufacturer to the wholesaler. The wholesaler purchases it for Rs 130, and adds on value (which is basically his ‘margin’) of, say, Rs 20. The gross value of the good he sells would then be Rs 130 + 20 — or a total of Rs 150.
A 10% tax on this amount will be Rs 15. But again, under GST, he can set off the tax on his output (Rs 15) against the tax on his purchased good from the manufacturer (Rs 13). Thus, the effective GST incidence on the wholesaler is only Rs 2 (15 – 13).

Stage 3

In the final stage, a retailer buys the shirt from the wholesaler. To his purchase price of Rs 150, he adds value, or margin, of, say, Rs 10. The gross value of what he sells, therefore, goes up to Rs 150 + 10, or Rs 160. The tax on this, at 10%, will be Rs 16. But by setting off this tax (Rs 16) against the tax on his purchase from the wholesaler (Rs 15), the retailer brings down the effective GST incidence on himself to Re 1 (16 –15).
Thus, the total GST on the entire value chain from the raw material/input suppliers (who can claim no tax credit since they haven’t purchased anything themselves) through the manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer is, Rs 10 + 3 +2 + 1, or Rs 16.

How it would be in a non-GST regime?

In a full non-GST system, there is a cascading burden of “tax on tax”, as there are no set-offs for taxes paid on inputs or on previous purchases.

Thus, if we consider the same example as above, the manufacturer buys raw materials/inputs at Rs 100 after paying tax of Rs 10. The gross value of the shirt (good) he manufacturers would be Rs 130, on which he pays a tax of Rs 13. But since there is no set-off against the Rs 10 he has already paid as tax on raw materials/inputs, the good is sold to the wholesaler at Rs 143 (130 + 13).

With the wholesaler adding value of Rs 20, the gross value of the good sold by him is, then, Rs 163. On this, the tax of Rs 16.30 (at 10%) takes the sale value of the good to Rs 179.30. The wholesaler, again, cannot set off the tax on the sale of his good against the tax paid on his purchase from the manufacturer.

The retailer, thus, buys the good at Rs 179.30, and sells it at a gross value of Rs 208.23, which includes his value addition of Rs 10 and a tax of Rs 18.93 (at 10% of Rs 179.30). Again, there is no mechanism for setting off the tax on the retailer’s sale against the tax paid on his previous purchase.

The total tax on the chain from the raw material/input suppliers to the final retailer in this full no-GST regime will, thus, work out to Rs 10 + 13 + 16.30 + 18.93 = Rs 58.23. For the final consumer, the price of the good would then be Rs 150 + 58.23 = Rs 208.23.

Compare this Rs 208.23 — with a tax of Rs 58.23 — to the final price of Rs 166, which includes a total tax of Rs 16, under GST.

गौर कीजिए हजरत मोहम्मद पर आपत्तिजनक टिप्पणी करने के आरोपी हिंदू महासभा के नेता कमलेश तिवारी को लेकर पश्चिम बंगाल के मालदा में जबरदस्त बवाल हुआ. कालियाचक इलाके में थाने को जला दिया गया. बवाल करने वाले बीएसएफ से भी भिड़ गए. हिंसा प्रभावित इलाके में जाने की कोशिश कर रहे बीजेपी विधायक सहित 25 नेताओं को पुलिस ने हिरासत में लिया. बाद में विधायक सामिक भट्टाचार्य को छोड़ दिया गया .

 अब पश्चिम बंगाल की इस दूसरी घटना पर गौर कीजिए. कोलकाता में 9 महीने पहले एक मदरसा शिक्षक काजी मासूम अख्तर की सिर्फ इसी बात पर कुछ मुस्लिम कट्टरपंथियों ने पिटाई कर दी क्योंकि उन्होंने मदरसे के बच्चों को राष्ट्रगान सिखाने की कोशिश की थी.

 अब इस पर भी गौर कीजिए जिस टीचर के साथ पिटाई हुई उसे 9 महीने से मदरसे में आने नहीं दिया गया है. मालदा में जिस कमलेश तिवारी की टिप्पणी पर बवाल हुआ वो आज जेल में है. पश्चिम बंगाल में आखिर क्या हो रहा है? कहां गए असहिष्णुता पर बड़ी बड़ी बातें करने वाले? बड़ा प्रश्न ये है कि क्या मुस्लिम कट्टरपंथ को नजरअंदाज किया जाता है?

20 जनवरी को लॉन्च होगी IMPACT डिजाइन वाली हैचबैक Zica

दिसंबर में भारतीय कार मेकर कंपनी TATA ने अपनी अगली हैचबैक Zica की पहली झलक पेश की थी. हालांकि उससे पहले भी इस कार की फोटो लीक हुई थी. खबरों के मुताबिक कंपनी इसे 20 जनवरी तक लॉन्च कर सकती है.

यह कार भी टाटा की फेमस कार इंडिका के ही प्लेटफॉर्म पर बनी होगी पर इस कार का डिजाइन और इसके फीचर्स बिल्कुल अलग होंगे. इस कार की कीमत 3 से 4 लाख रुपये होने की उम्मीद की जा रही है.

टाटा ने पेश किया IMPACT डिजाइन
टाटा ने IMPACT डिजाइन लैंग्वेज पेश किया है. इस डिजाइन के तहत टाटा की पहली कार होगी Zica. कंपनी इसके तहत आने वाले वर्षों में और भी कार लॉन्च करेगी. कंपनी ने इस डिजाइन पर बनी अपनी कारों में काफी बदलाव लाने की तैयारी में है.

कंपनी ने अपने बयान में कहा है कि इंपैक्ट डिजाइन की वजह से लोग कार को पहली नजर में तो पसंद करेंगे ही, साथ ही लंबे समय तक यह डिजाइन पुराना नहीं होगा और लोगों को काफी पसंद आएगा.

कंपनी के एक बयान के मुताबिक यह कार फ्रेश डिजाइन और कई इनोवेटिव फीचर्स के साथ आएगी. साथ ही भारत के ग्लोबल नागरिकों के लिए इसमें कटिंग एज ड्राइविंड डायनेमिक्स भी होंगे.

खबरों के मुताबिक, यह कार दो इंजन ऑप्शन के साथ उपलब्ध होगी जिनमें 4 सिलिंडर वाला 1.2 लीटर पेट्रोल और 3 सिलिंडर का 1.05 लीटर डीजल इंजन शामिल हैं. भारतीय बाजार में इस कार को Eon, i10, K10, Kwid और Wagon R जैसी हैचबैक से टक्कर मिलेगी.

कोलकाता में एक मदरसे में छात्रों को राष्ट्रगान सिखाने पर टीचर को पीटा गया. मौलवियों ने फतवा जारी कर टीचर के मदरसे में आने पर भी रोक लगाई. कोलकाता में सरकारी सहायता से चलने वाले इस मदरसे के छात्रों को राष्ट्रगान गाने की आजादी नहीं है.

काजी मासूम अख्तर इस मदरसे के हेडमास्टर हैं लेकिन पिछले 9 महीने से उन्हें मदरसे में आने नहीं दिया जा रहा है क्योंकि उन्होने यहां के छात्रों को राष्ट्र गान सिखाने की कोशिश की.

इस पूरे मसले पर काजी मासूम अख्तर ने कहा, ''मैंने यहां राष्ट्रगान की शुरूआत की तो इस इलाके के कुछ कट्टरपंथियों और प्रबंधन के कुछ लोगों ने इसका विरोध किया और कहा कि ये गलत है. उन्होने कहा कि राष्ट्रगान इस्लाम विरोधी है.''

काजी मामूम अख्तर के मुताबिक वे बच्चो को गणतंत्र दिवस की तैयारी के लिए राष्ट्रगान सिखा रहे थे. आपको बता दें कि अख्तर के खिलाफ जो फतवा जारी हुआ है उसमें उन्हें दाढ़ी बढ़ाने और कुर्ता पायजामा पहनने के लिए भी कहा गया है. दाढ़ी की लंबाई कितनी होगी ये भी फतवा जारी करने वाले मौलाना ही तय करेंगे. मामूम अख्तर के मुताबिक वे आमतौर पर शर्ट और पैंट पहनते हैं.

काजी मासूम अख्तर पश्चिम बंगाल की मुख्यमंत्री ममता बनर्जी से लेकर राज्यपाल और अल्पसंख्यक आयोग तक गुहार लगा चुके हैं. लेकिन अभी तक न उनकी सुरक्षा को लेकर कोई भरोसा मिला है न वो दोबारा मदरसे में जा पाए.

ऑड ईवन पर कोर्ट ने पूछा, कितना कम हुआ प्रदूषण?

दिल्ली सरकार की प्रदूषण कम करने की महत्वकांक्षी योजना ऑड-ईवन पर बड़ा सवाल उठाते हुए, दिल्ली हाईकोर्ट ने केजरीवाल सरकार से पूछा कि, क्यों न इस योजना को एक ही हफ्ते के लिए चलाया जाए?

बुधवार को दिल्ली हाईकोर्ट के जस्टिस जी. रोहिणी और जयंत नाथ के बेंच ने केजरीवाल सरकार से सवाल किया कि, अगर लोगों को परेशानी आ रही है तो क्या ऑड-ईवन योजना को 15 दिन की बजाए एक हफ्ते के लिए ही सीमित नहीं किया जा सकता।

हाईकोर्ट के जजों की बेंच ने दिल्ली सरकार से दो दिन के भीतर ही आंकड़े पेश करने को कहा है जिसमें ये बताया जाए कि दिल्ली में एक हफ्ते के भीतर प्रदूषण का स्तर क्या रहा? इसके साथ ही प्रदूषण में कमी आई या नहीं।

अपने परमाणु कार्यक्रमों को लेकर दुनिया भर के निशाने पर रहे उत्तर कोरिया ने फिर नया विवाद छेड़ दिया है. उत्तर कोरिया ने दावा किया है कि उसने शक्तिशाली हाइड्रोजन बम का परीक्षण किया है. इससे पहले खबर आई थी कि बुधवार सुबह उत्तर कोरिया के परमाणु परीक्षण केंद्र के नजदीक 5.1 तीव्रता का भूकंप दर्ज किया गया है. हालांकि, चीन में भूकंप की घटनाओं पर नजर रखने वाली संस्था ने इसे संदिग्ध परमाणु परीक्षण बताया था.

इस रिपोर्ट के आने के साथ ही जापान और अमेरिका ने भी कहा था कि वह मामले पर नजर बनाए हुए है और यह परमाणु परीक्षण ही हो सकता है. हालांकि जल्द ही उत्तर कोरिया ने आधिकारिक रूप से कह दिया कि उसने शक्तिशाली हाइड्रोजन बम का सफल परीक्षण किया है.

उत्तर कोरिया ने कहा है कि उसने अपने पहले हाइड्रोजन बम का सफलतापूर्व परीक्षण किया है. उत्तर कोरिया के सरकारी टीवी चैनल ने इस खबर की पुष्टि करते हुए कहा कि परीक्षण सुबह 10 बजे किया गया. इससे पहले, अमेरिकी भूगर्भ सर्वेक्षण ने उत्तर कोरिया में रिक्टर पैमाने पर 5.1 तीव्रता के 'झटके' रिकॉर्ड किए थे. हालांकि दक्षिण कोरिया के मौसम विभाग के मुताबिक़ इन 'झटकों' की तीव्रता रिक्टर पैमाने पर 4.2 थी.

जिस जगह पर ये झटके रिकॉर्ड किए गए हैं, वो उस जगह के पास है जिसका इस्तेमाल पहले परमाणु परीक्षण के लिए किया जाता था. चीन और दक्षिण कोरिया के अधिकारियों के मुताबिक़, 'इस तरह के संकेत हैं कि इसकी वजह प्राकृतिक नहीं है. इसका मतलब ये निकाला जा सकता है कि उत्तर कोरिया ने परमाणु परीक्षण किया हो.'

जापान के प्रधामनंत्री शिंजो आबे ने इस परीक्षण को अपने देश के लिए सुरक्षा खतरा करार दिया है. अमेरिका ने कहा कि यह खतरा पूरी दुनिया के लिए है और इसपर विश्व समुदाय उचित प्रतिक्रिया देगा. दक्षिण कोरिया की सरकारी समाचार एजेंसियों के मुताबिक़ उनके देश के मंत्रियों ने एक आपात बैठक बुलाई है. माना जाता है कि 2006 से लेकर अब तक उत्तर कोरिया ने पुनगेई-री परीक्षण स्थल में 3 बार भूमिगत परमाणु परीक्षण किए हैं. उत्तर कोरिया के परमाणु परीक्षण का असर जापान के शेयर बाज़ार पर भी दिखा. समाचार एजेंसी रॉयटर्स के मुताबिक जापान के निक्केई शेयर सूचकांक में बुधवार दोपहर तक 1.7 फ़ीसदी की गिरावट दर्ज की गई.
